James 180 front end loader (FEL)

Loader

I'm lifting a grass box on the YLÖ trailer and the fork hardly goes high enough. The tines are a bit over 3m in their horizontal position. Still arms are rather long in this James 180 loader and I can reach quite far with it.

Bracket

The left side of bracket frame was apart during the MF 390 clutch repair.

Bracket

The frames are flattened under the battery boxes.

Frame

The horizontal support pipe on front of the windscreen.

Farme

The plate that fastens to the front block is 25mm thick and the vertical frame is 30mm thick, but this same bracket is also used in heavier loaders. Weight is good, it makes the 390 more stable.

Sovite

A crossbar combines the left and right frame beneath the clutch housing. Battery box on the right. In Finland the 390 came with 2 batteries, but nowadays I've used only one high CCA battery.

Frame

This same bracket can be used in longer 6-cylinder 399, because the frames can be elongated. The bolts are just placed in other holes on the rear shaft parts.

Valve

FEL valve blocks Finnhydraulic RS212 (year 1990) and new Nordhydraulic RS212 block. Finnhydraulics was a Finnish company, that was merged to Swedish Nordhydraulics. Anyway the RS-blocks have stayed in production almost similar (2013). The cable adapters are threaded, so adjusting is possible by turning the adapter.

Valve

The valve board is made of slices. The upper slice is with flotation and the other is a basic two-directional valve. Also in pic the pressure end plate with the main relief valve. This end has two pressure inlets and also two places for the relief valve, that must be in the right place related to the pressure pipe.

Valve

On the left the return alias tank end plate with a serial output connector, from where the oil goes to the 390's original Kontak valve board rear of gabin.

This kind of two-directional valve board has internally 2 tank lines:
1. Spool in rest, centered: Return oil goes straight through the board to serial output.
2. Spool actuated, oil led to cylinder: Return oil from opposite side of cylinder piston goes to own tankline.

When the valve board is used alone, 1 and 2 are combined to output T and led trough a single tankhose to oil reservoir (tractor body). In this case the serial output 1 is plugged.

When the board is used with other valve board (fe. Kontak), a serial connector is screwed to serial output. This connector is a short pipe, that separates 1 and 2. Now we can take other boards pressure oil (1) from this connector. Still must be a tankhose in T output for 2.

So in this 390 pressure oil goes first to FEL's board and from it's serial output to original Kontak board. When I actuate FEL's joystick, Kontak is without pressure oil and action stops there until I free the joystick. Otherwise both valve boards are available all the time.

Shocks

Old and new relief valves are interchangeable. On the left old and new shock valves for the cylinder lines and on the right the old main relief valve.

When repairing the brakes I also found 390's own relief valve, which is in the auxiliary pump's line. More info of the circuits on the MF390 hydraulics page.

Shocks

I took an old shock valve apart. It can be adjusted with shims between the spring and core or the end plug. Newer valves have a seal, where the pressure is written. These can be adjusted by turning a screw after the seal is removed. This fine adjust can be done within certain pressure values. If higher pressure is needed, the spring is changed to a stiffer one. The springs are color coded; White, red etc. The shocks were about 50 euros per piece (2013).

Cables

Cable ends, that attach to the joystick.

Cables

These ends attach to the valveboard. Old and new cables are also similar. These are 1,5 metres long, variety of lenghts were available.

Joystick

The cables and joystick joint.

Adapter

I made an adapter to fasten a Vila/Valtra bracketed bucket to a Euro headstock, that Quicke in Valmet 805 has.

Adapter

The Vila part is made of 120 mm U-profile. On the upper end I welded a plate to strenghten it.

Adapter

The parts, that are compatible with Euro headstock, I bought ready.

Adapter

Adapter

Then an adapter to fasten an Euro bracketed bucket to a Vila/Valtra headstock of the James loader. So far it don't have proper pins for locking, only those bolts. Euro fitting could be lower, cause Vila/Valtra headstock is so tall and robust. On the other hand then there wouldn't be direct sight to Euro brackets.

Adapter

Venttiili

Electrically controlled Kladivar 6/2 change over valve for FEL's third function. I fasten it straight on the cylinder, so I don't need to modify the piping much. I'll use halves of hose clamps and m6 long nuts to which I've welded pieces of m8 threaded rods.

Venttiili

There's some leaking inside the cylinder pass the piston, so sometimes the bucket turns by itself. Been like that for a long time, maybe some day I'll fix it.

Releboxi

Valve's control box with a relay, a fuse and a diode for the coil pins to prevent sparks. The valve needs about 3 amperes to work.

Releboxi

Waterproof protective box. It's attached to the bracket frame, because everything around the engine is so stuffed.

Painonappi

The switch for the third funktion is similar to MF135 horn. I'll weld this to the joystick handle.

Painonappi

I can use this also with my gloves on.

Joystick

The switch welded to the joystick; It's for the left hand. I press with my thump when the 3. funktion is needed, otherwise the bucket turn is on.

Vaihtoventtiili

So the change over valve is on the cylinder and I could use the old pipes; Only renewed the pearl connectors. I hope that the valve can take the pressure, which can be rather high; This needs a 300 bar shock valve for the turn cylinder not to give in.

Vaihtoventtiili

No need for extra hoses from the rear any more.
